Also, my flight was delayed twice and cancelled once while every other airline was on time. The plane had problems. I couldnt get any answers about the baggage allowance. YOU ARE ALLOWED 2 BAGS CHECKED AND 1 CARRY ON FREE WITH DELTA TO EL SALVADOR. Ignore whatever new rules say, they are hard to read but the above is true for El Salvador as of Feb 2010 and forward. They have to be 50 lbs or less checked and 40 for carry on.
DO NOT FLY DELTA IF YOU HAVE A ONE WAY TICKET. They will check for ongoing travel. Immigration in El Salvador never does, TACA won't but DELTA does. So avoid Delta, fly TACA if you only want to buy a one way ticket. I ended up just printing a professional itenarary from TACA and it worked but barely. So avoid DELTA.

Any experience with Continental? Debating buying round trip (with miles) or one way (cash) - but one way is $300 more than the roundtrip!
Whew, I was going to book a flight for my husband on Delta but decided to go with TACA. Sounds like I made the right choice. Great blog thank you thank you!
Anonymous -- yes, you made a very good choice.
Jacqui, I would say honestly... keep an eye open. One way flights do usually come cheaper but lately its been round trip is cheaper. No idea why.
Anyway, Continental well I have heard very good things but havent tried them yet, if you decide to go with them please email me your experience so I can blog it. I am curious...
Honestly, just avoid Delta and american.
Continental offers the best service by far. TACA is the worst!!!! and Delta is right next to them.TACA has been abusing salvadorian travelers for decades!! STOP using that airline!!!
Use Continental or American depending on where you live; only TACA has direct routes to ES, all others will route you thru their hubs before flying to ES.
Tibu I appreciate the comment, always good but honestly I am not sure I agree. This blog and myself have personally helped so far countless travelers and deportees and I have picked several up from the airport so far.
Everyone likes TACA mostly. I have had several great experiences with them as have readers and other people. My sister liked taca aswell and she hates to fly.
American Airlines to El Salvador is trash. I am sorry to say but it is. I have had a total of 3 flights with American to from/ ES and a total of 1 cancelled and 2 delayed. So Honestly, American is out for me. One had no flight attendants and 2 broken TVs (only 5 TVs in total). It was sad.
Delta I will agree with you is bad.
Hopefully Continental is great! As you said, I have heard wonderful things about Continental. I really wanna fly Continental to find out, they have a wonderful service station here and it'd be great to find a truly good airline to ES.
I've traveled Continental from Cleveland, OH many times. No problems, flights are on time, not a long layover between flights in Houston. Flights are at good times, also.
Mary great to hear! Have you ever traveled international with them?
I had previously traveled American in the USA and enjoyed it however when I traveled international with them it was blah! Can't believe I've never flown Continental! I really want to know how their flights are. Good input Mary!
I noticed on Continental Website they have a flight from Washington to El Salvador with a 43 Minute Layover in Texas.
Departs IAD (Washington Dulles) at 6.43 AM and gets to El Salvador at 11:11AM. That is not half bad, with free snacks on the second leg of the trip.
First checked bag free, second $27 dollars with a free carry-on.
Price is at $580. I find that reasonable. I'd be curious to hear from someone whos flown them to El Salvador.
