Week of 22-FEB-2010 Grocery List & Prices

Okay everyone, I have been getting a ton of questions about Food Shopping here. I would just like to say I live close to a small sized town/city and we have 3 super markets. The bigger areas have more so it is practically the same as in the USA. The stores most common here are La Despensa Familiar, La Despensa de Don Juan & Super Selectos. I will just note that the first two are now assets owned by Walmart. While they keep their own names, the signs and name tags in the stores all say Walmart. They are setup almost like Walmarts and they carry all the Walmart name brands and off brands (all great value stuff) imported from the US. So finding your favorite products shouldn't be too hard.

I like La Despensa de Don Juan the best but Despensa Familiar is smaller and prices are better. Super Selectos has good weekly deals to watch out for and have some products the others might not have. Inside La Despensa de Don Juan you will find the same typical setup. Registers at the front, meat counter, bakery counter, etc.

I typically buy the cheaper brands to avoid overpaying but anyway, every week I am going to post my grocery list and the price for each product just so everyone can get an idea and see what it is like here.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND IN EL SALVADOR ALL PRICES INCLUDE IVA (TAXES) SO IF IT SAYS 1.00, THAT IS THE FINAL COST! TAX IS ALREADY FIGURED INTO THE PRICE ALWAYS.
