For everyone who is moving to El Salvador or already living in El Salvador, internet is probably going to be necessary.
Communication back home to the USA is just one of many uses. El Salvador may not be ahead in many areas, but they are great with internet coverage. Tigo has just recently upgraded their network here and the performance is well noted.
Starting October 1st, 2010 all customers of Tigo internet, will recieve DOUBLED SPEED for free. If you are on 1MEGA you are now 2 MEGAS, etc.
Tigo internet can be purchased by calling the contact center or visiting any of their locations. You will need to have a DUI to take out service and proof of El Salvador based income.
Tigo offers internet, phone and cable. To take out service, you need to have sufficent income.
Income
--------
$200 - You can have one service. IE Internet, cable or telephone but no package.
$400 - Two services.
$550-600 - You can get a package deal with all three services.
The cost varies but at this time it is around $60 a month for Cable, Internet (1 MEGA) and telephone. Installation is fast, for me it was same day. Service with the internet is almost flawless.
You can also purchased a prepaid wireless modem and use that if you do not have ingresos (income) to get a regular account. Wireless speeds vary and coverage is generally good. It is not the most reliable.
